Hayden has been driving chariot since 1995 and wagons since 1999. He was the 1999 rookie wagon driver of the year. Hayden proudly carries Select Shows, Valley Meat Packers, and Kooistra Hay Sales as his sponsors. He travels throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta racing his chariots and wagon. He was the Northwest Roundup Champion in 2007 claiming the Manitoba Provincial Chuckwagon Championship. He placed second at the 2007 Manitoba Provincial Chariot Championships. He also received the 2007 Penalty Free Wagon Award.  

Hayden’s entire family is involved in chuckwagon and chariot racing. His father Ray has been racing since 1965. His late brother Kristen was the official starter for the MPCCA and drove wagons until his passing in 2004. His sister Colleen is a champion chariot driver, sister Shannon tries to find time to drive chariot and work as a track judge, and brother-in-law Steve races chuckwagons.

Hayden and Charlene both work as teachers for the Swan Valley School Division and enjoy their summers touring and racing throughout Western Canada.
